Building Your Own Home Shooting Range
So you want to be a better hunter, eh? I don’t blame you. After all, hunting is both a challenging and rewarding sport. And there’s nothing quite like the feeling of finally bagging that trophy buck you’ve been chasing for seasons. But becoming a better hunter takes more than just wishing for it—it takes practice. A lot of practice.
Everyone knows the importance of regular practice. After all, shooting is a skill that requires precision and hand-eye coordination. The more you shoot, the better you’ll get at it. There are a few different ways that you can practice your shot. If you have access to a gun range, that’s definitely a good place to start. Most gun ranges will have paper targets that you can use to get a feel for your gun and hone your aim.
If you have enough land and live in an area where shooting is allowed, why not build your own shooting range? Having a gun range at home is convenient—you can practice any time you want. All you need is some space (at least 25 yards is ideal), some targets, and a gun.
Getting Started
The first step is to find a safe location for your shooting range. You’ll need enough land so that bullets won’t go flying into your neighbor’s yard (or worse). Once you’ve found the perfect spot, it’s time to start setting up your shooting setup. This could be anything from homemade targets to purchased stands from a sporting goods store. The most important thing is that you’re able to practice safely.
If you’re worried about straying bullets, consider building a berm—a mound of earth—to catch them. You can also use bullet traps, which are designed to stop bullets and make sure they don’t ricochet. Ballistic Rubber is always a great choice for gun range safety!

Once everything is set up, you’re ready to start shooting! Remember to take safety precautions at all times, such as wearing ear and eye protection. And most importantly, have fun! Shooting is supposed to be enjoyable—that’s why you’re doing it in the first place.
